Biography of the best man to ever walk this earth. Studying the Seerah of prophet Muhammed ﷺ is of critical importance because he is the only one that perfectly and infallibly implemented the teachings of the Qurʾān in his life. The prophet ﷺ said, “None of you believes until I am dearer to him than his father, his child, and all mankind”. How can we love the prophet ﷺ that much when we only know very little about his life? How can he be our prime example when we do not know everything about him?
Allah All-Mighty said, “Whoever obeys the Messenger obeys God” [4:80]. The Sunnah of the prophet (i.e. his sayings, teachings, actions, and approvals) is the second primary source of Islam after the Qurʾān, and it is impossible to understand the Qurʾān without it. To mention one of countless examples: we find in the Qurʾān that Allah commands us to establish prayer, yet it does not tell us how to pray. The manner of prayer is found in the sayings of the prophet ﷺ in precise details.
If there is anything better than reciting and memorizing the Qurʾān, it is understanding the Qurʾān, for we cannot implement its teachings in our life if we do not understand it. Moreover, it is the light that Allah All-Mighty revealed to guide us in all aspects of life, so we do not go astray.
The Qurʾān contains stories of past nations and their prophets, refutations of the other religions and beliefs, proving the oneness of the Creator and His worthiness to be worshipped alone, scientific miracles that we discover as we learn more about the universe [Ask your Shiakh to explain the third and fourth verses of Surah 75]. The wonders of the Qurʾān will never be exhausted, and we will keep discovering them until the Last Day. Lastly, by studying Tafsir, you will be able to fulfil Allah’s command for us to do Tadabbur [pondering over] His Words.
